Saxon State Baths Bad Elster
Bad Elster is one of the most traditional mineral and mud spas in Germany and is also known for its strong thermal brine, which you can enjoy with 15% concentration while floating weightlessly.
The town is nestled in the Vogtland low mountain range with extensive forests and clean air. For guests, visitors, patients and health holidaymakers, the Albert Bad therapy and wellness centre is available in the middle of the royal grounds as a ‘centre of health’.
What makes it special: It is located in the midst of historic spa and park architecture, which was once built by the Saxon royal family in the 19th century and today enchants visitors with its nostalgic charm. The ornately decorated forest dome above the entrance hall on Brunnenberg is well worth seeing.
It was designed in 1882/83 by the Dresden architectural painter Ludwig Theodor Chaulant, a pupil of Georg Semper, and features impressive spa and water motifs. The historic building complex combines the extensive bathing and sauna area in the Albert Bad, the Bad Elster brine spa and wellness and therapy areas.
This also includes the large gymnastics room, for which the challenge was to improve the acoustics. The instructors of the health courses on offer were previously very difficult to understand. As they wanted to leave the beautiful historical architecture as it was, the decision was made to suspend highly sound-absorbing acoustic cubes from the ceiling, free in the room, seemingly weightless and floating, stars in the high sky. In contrast, the large, high-performance wall absorbers 55 merge with the white wall before the eye of the beholder. It is often the simple things that make the difference and give a room its own individual flavour.
‘The aesthetic design is extremely successful and has led to a better utilisation of the room,’ was the conclusion from the Saxon State Spa Bad Elster.
