Disinfection of fabrics
In response to the pandemic, Camira Fabrics Ltd, one of the world's leading fabric manufacturers, has expanded its cleaning recommendations to include comprehensive disinfection methods for various fibre and material types. Some methods, such as deep cleaning, are only applicable to certain material types. More detailed recommendations can be found in the disinfection matrix offered by the manufacturer. It should be noted that fabrics should always be cleaned first before they are disinfected with the appropriate method.
Water and soap:
Just as cleaning your hands with soap and water is the best way to stop the spread of the virus, it is also an effective method for cleaning furniture fabrics. Soap works so effectively because its chemical composition opens the outer shell of the coronavirus and causes it to break down quickly.
Alcohol:
Alcohol and ethanol-based disinfectants are quickly effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi. Camira Fabrics Ltd. has conducted tests with sprays and wipes containing 75% alcohol solution. But always follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions for use.
Bleach:
Bleach is usually made from a solution of sodium hypochlorite. If it comes into contact with certain viruses, bacteria, moulds or fungi, the molecules in the cells of the germs oxidise and kill them.
Steam:
Steam cleaning and disinfection is chemical-free and uses a combination of temperature and pressure to remove dirt and stains and kill microorganisms.
Antibacterial spray / wipes:
Antibacterial sprays and wipes are typically based on benzalkonium chloride solutions (0.4 g per 100 g) and are fast-acting biocides that are effective against bacteria, some viruses and fungi.
